does anyone else have the problem with freezing up when its time to test for your next rank. i know my form i know my self defense im not to bad when it comes to sparring. everything flows great in class but when i test and its time to show what i know i seem to draw a blank my form gets real sloppy. i just kinda seem to crash.

Comment by Alex on January 14, 2012 at 7:46am @Wael yes, absolutely. If one is to tired to do much more then stand, all they have left is muscle memory and technique. When exhausted there is no way to muscle or cheat one's way through a technique or concept that isn't fully understood.
Interestingly this is the same concept from which many types of movement oriented yoga use to get to a point of empty minded relaxation.
Comment by Wael on January 13, 2012 at 11:34am Yes, that happens to me too. I don't totally freeze up, I just get split-second freezes while my mind processes what I'm supposed to be doing.
@ Alex, do you mean they put you through all that as part of the test? Some styles do that to exhaust your muscles, so that all you have left is pure technique.

Comment by Jay-Dub on January 9, 2012 at 9:47pm what is it? two weeks I think till your next test... Study up hahahahahahaha
Comment by Alex on January 8, 2012 at 6:25pm In the class I attend, at testing, by the time we get to techniques and forms we've already done ~500 kicks, ~400 punches, ~300 (combination of) pushups/crunches/burpees, one is in survival mode and only muscle memory is left. (though sometimes I'm not sure the muscles are still with me, lol)
