SteelyJan posted a statusHi All!
I am training really hard, trying to get all my techniques and forms together. One form that was totally bugging me out is finally learned. All it took was 2 solid hours working it with a great teacher, who is asking nothing for the time she is spending with me, just pass the test. BUSHIDO! Three of us meet on Fridays and work on specific techniques or forms. This has helped a lot. Don't get me wrong , some days I feel totally inadequate. I will do my…

Hi Wael and fellow Hapkidoists!
So I am preparing for my Black Belt on May 13th and I am training almost everyday, watching videos of our techniques, teaching and working at the dojang....
And yet, I feel I am not retaining what I am learning. I felt I could have waited for the next test ( a few years) but my Sabumnim wanted me to go for it. I see some of our senior teachers looking at our class of Bodans, and whether they literally say it or you can…

Hi Wael and Everyone at Hapkido Network! Although the last test that I participated in ( not for rank) left me thinking I shouldn't attempt the Black Belt test this year, I have changed my mind and I will go for it. I have roughly two months to go over all my forms and techniques . I have all my other requirements , such as desk duty, field duty (demos etc.) and plenty of teaching hours. …

So I recently participated in a belt test. I wasn't testing for rank. In our school January is white belt month where everyone ( besides black belts) is required to wear a white belt as a return to the beginning and fresh start. Then February is mandatory test month , there are three weeks of test dates to choose from.
Also in our school higher ranks are required to show up and participate in belt tests. As partners for lower belts and in preparation for the black…

Hi All! I haven't been blogging here in a while. Very busy with my art and martial arts! My school has announced the dates for our Black Belt test. May 13th , Mother's day. I will put my application in although I missed the pre-test. Either they will accept it or not. I have been training like crazy, dropped five pounds and feeling lean and mean. I also returned to my previous school to train with my best friend who is going through some life problems. I enjoy mixing it up once a week and…

Wael said… There are definitely a lot of techniques in Hapkido. That's perhaps the greatest challenge of the art. It can be daunting... On the other hand, it keeps things interesting. I know many practitioners of other arts who have quit because after practicing for years, they felt there was nothing new to learn. We don't have that problem in Hapkido.
It has always seemed to me like you really enjoy your Hapkido journey. We all have those occasional moments of self-doubt.
