This are definitions based on the breakdown of the various meanings of the words of the Bushido. 


Bushido, A Complete Definition   


 1. Gi - Righteousness, Justice or Morality (Rectitude) 


 a. In accordance with virtue or morality. 

 b. The quality of being just; fairness. 

 c. The quality of being in accord with standards of right or good conduct. 

 d. Moral uprightness; righteousness.  


Gi is to do the right thing. 


2. Yuuki (Yu) - Heroic Courage 

 

a. Having, displaying, or characteristic of the qualities appropriate to a hero; courageous. 

 b. The power or quality of dealing with or facing danger, fear, pain, etc. 


 Yuuki means brave, courageous energy.  


3. Jin - Benevolence, Compassion 

 

a. Inclination or tendency to help or do good to others; charity. 

 b. Deep awareness of the suffering of another coupled with the wish to relieve it. 


 Jin is the benevolence that unites each human being to the other.  


4. Rei - Polite Courtesy, Respect 

 

a. Showing regard for others, in manners, speech, behavior, etc.; courteous. 

 b. Politeness; good manners. 

 c. An attitude of deference, admiration, or esteem; regard. 


 Rei is politeness, respect shown in social behavior. 


5. Makoto - Complete Sincerity, Honesty 


 a. Absolute; total. 

 b. The quality of being open and truthful; not deceitful or hypocritical. 

 c. The quality or condition of being honest; integrity. 


 Makoto means truth in word and action, to follow truly the Law of the Universe. 


6. Meiyo - Honor 


 a. Principled uprightness of character; personal integrity; a code of integrity, dignity, and pride. 


Meiyo is to enjoy a good reputation, honor.      


7. Chuugi (Chu) - Devoted Loyalty 


 a. Feeling or displaying strong affection or attachment; ardent. 

 b. The state or quality of being loyal, a feeling or attitude of devoted attachment and affection, a feeling of allegiance.  


Chuugi is to act faithfully, to be loyal.

It was kinda late last night when I posted this. I felt that to truly understand what this means, maybe it would help to have a better understanding of not just the philosophical meaning behind the 7 codes of the bushido, but also the exact definitions of the words.

My question would be why we as KMA guys need to understand a JMA concept...
